How AROMASIN® (exemestane tablets) Works

Hormonal therapy and breast cancer

Certain breast cancers need the female hormone estrogen to grow. These type of breast cancers are called estrogen-dependent or estrogen-receptor positive (ER+) cancers.

AROMASIN is a type of hormonal therapy called an aromatase inhibitor. This means, it will interfere with the normal production of estrogen. It is also important to know that AROMASIN is not a chemotherapy and it is not a hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

AROMASIN helps lower the production of estrogen in postmenopausal women. AROMASIN can lower the amount of estrogen in postmenopausal women up to 95%. Less estrogen may mean less risk of estrogen-dependent tumor growth.

How AROMASIN works:

  • AROMASIN decreases the production of estrogen in postmenopausal women, which may mean less risk of estrogen-dependent tumor growth

AROMASIN is not an HRT

You may have heard about HRT for menopause. HRT helps women with the symptoms of menopause by replacing estrogen lost due to menopause. AROMASIN is not an HRT. It is a hormonal therapy that decreases the production of estrogen. These two therapies are very different. Let your doctor know about any medications or supplements you are taking, as they could affect how well AROMASIN works.
