Managing Side Effects

Use these tips to help lessen side effects that you may experience.

Medicines can have benefits and side effects. It's good for you and your doctor to think about both when deciding on a treatment plan. Below are some of the most common side effects women had during the AROMASIN® (exemestane tablets) IES study. Side effects were usually mild to moderate. Below you can find ways to help manage some of the common side effects. Remember to talk to your doctor or nurse for more information. Always report new or different side effects to your doctor right away to be sure they are not a sign of something more serious.

Hot Flashes

Avoid alcohol, smoking, and caffeine. Use a fan or air conditioner for comfort. Wear light, comfortable clothing in layers.

Fatigue

Eat a healthy diet. Exercise regularly. Have a consistent sleep schedule. Reduce stress.

Joint Pain

Do light exercises like stretching or yoga. Manage your weight with aerobics. Applying ice to joints for 15 minutes after activities may reduce pain and swelling.

Headache

Lie down in a quiet room. Gently massage your temples. Breathe deeply.

Insomnia

Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and evenings. Exercise in the morning or afternoon. Eat only a light meal at least 3 hours before bed.

Increased
Sweating

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and spicy foods. Wear natural fiber clothing. Bathe daily.

AROMASIN® (exemestane tablets) is a prescription medicine for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen-receptor positive early breast cancer. Treatment with AROMASIN should begin after 2 to 3 years of tamoxifen, at which time tamoxifen should be discontinued. Treatment with AROMASIN should continue for 2 to 3 years (until the completion of a total of 5 years of adjuvant treatment with tamoxifen and AROMASIN).
